ERM Programme

Practitioner4 daysRisk Management

Programme overview

Trustview's flagship risk qualification. Over four days delegates build a complete enterprise risk management framework for their own organisation, from governance architecture and risk appetite through to reporting to the board. Delegates arrive with their organisation's context and leave with a drafted ERM framework document, a populated risk register, a risk appetite statement and a 90 day implementation plan. This is a build programme, not a lecture series.

Who should attend

Chief Risk Officers and heads of risk, risk managers and analysts, compliance officers moving into risk, finance managers carrying risk portfolios, internal auditors, and public enterprise officers responsible for risk reporting to a board or parent ministry.

Sectors

Banks, insurers and retirement funds, SACCOs and microfinance institutions, public enterprises and parastatals, large corporates and mining, telecommunications.

Modules

  1. Governance of risk: the board's role, King V, Risk Frameworks and the three lines model in a small institution
  2. Designing a risk management framework: policy, charter, standards and the risk management plan
  3. Setting risk appetite and tolerance: translating strategy into quantified limits the board can approve
  4. Risk identification: workshops, interviews, loss data, horizon scanning and emerging risk
  5. Risk analysis and evaluation: likelihood and impact scales calibrated to your balance sheet, inherent versus residual, control effectiveness scoring
  6. Building and maintaining the enterprise risk register: taxonomy, ownership, aggregation from divisional to enterprise level
  7. Risk treatment: the four T's, cost of control, and holding management accountable for action plans
  8. Key risk indicators: designing leading indicators, setting thresholds, escalation triggers
  9. Risk reporting: heat maps that do not mislead, board risk dashboards, integrating risk into the annual report
  10. Risk culture and maturity: assessing where you are and evidencing improvement
